about
The first two jigs are entrenched in the Sliabh Luachra repertoire of Cork, Kerry, and West Limerick via the playing of Paddy Cronin and Denis Murphy. I learned the first from the playing of Vincent Cronin, Paddy’s flute-playing son and one of the stalwarts of traditional Irish music in
San Francisco. The second comes from the playing of Gerry Harrington and Billy Clifford and was recently recorded on their marvelous album Now She’s Purring. The third tune can be found in Volume 1 of the Canon Goodman Collection and was collected in 1866( #432), and is also found in O’Neill’s Music of Ireland as The Kilfinane Jig. I first heard it from the piping of Robbie Hannan.

Absolutely sensational - love the generally low-end tones and planxty-esque set up, but most of all the incredible energy of it! Wish more instrumental trad was like this, love the fact that it's recorded live too. Prangman

Arragnements fit together perfectly, piping is precise, variations accentuate the tunes well and the rhythm section is dancing! Unique and enjoyable all around! MichaelD

Nick's settings and playing of these old tunes on his instrument are just superb. When I first saw his track list I was shocked, He had found more tracks from Oscar and Malvina than I had in years of searching. This album remains a musical and academic delight! Wetootwaag
